Trump hails US strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, suggests regime change

23 June 2025 09:44

US President Donald Trump on June 22 praised the US military strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, describing them as a “total and complete win” and suggesting that regime change in Tehran may be necessary if Iran’s leaders cannot “Make Iran Great Again.”

Writing in a Truth Social post, Trump said the strikes caused “monumental damage” to Iranian nuclear facilities, calling the result “obliteration.” He shared details based on satellite imagery, noting that “the biggest damage took place far below ground level,” with US forces scoring a direct hit on deeply buried structures, Caliber.Az reports.

Trump credited the US military for carrying out what he called a “spectacular military success” in preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

“We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands [and they would use it if they could!],” he wrote in a separate post.

The president also commented on the narrative that the attacks were aimed at a regime change in Iran, saying that “it’s not politically correct to use the term ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”

Additionally, Trump framed the strikes as a necessary response to Iran’s history of hostility toward the United States, including the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran and the killing and maiming of thousands of Americans over the years. He argued that without intervention, Iran would soon acquire the capability to produce nuclear weapons.

Early on June 21, American forces conducted airstrikes 21 on three key Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

The US operation involved B-2 Spirit stealth bombers deploying GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOPs), 30,000-pound “bunker-buster” bombs designed to penetrate deeply buried targets. The primary target, Fordow, is a heavily fortified uranium enrichment facility located 300 feet beneath a mountain south of Tehran, making it one of Iran’s most secure nuclear sites. Six B-2 bombers dropped a dozen MOPs on Fordow, while US Navy submarines launched 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Natanz and Isfahan, according to US officials. Trump claimed the strikes “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities.
