Trump hails "very positive" talks with Hamas on Gaza Urges swift action to avoid bloodshed
US President Donald Trump has called for rapid progress in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza, describing talks with Hamas and international partners as “very positive.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said discussions over the weekend involved “countries from all over the world (Arab, Muslim, and everyone else) to release the hostages, end the war in Gaza, but, more importantly, finally have long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” Caliber.Az reports.
He added that the negotiations were “very successful, and proceeding rapidly,” noting that technical teams would reconvene in Egypt on Monday (October 6) to “work through and clarify the final details.”
Trump indicated optimism that the first phase of the plan could conclude this week, urging urgency in the process.
“I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST,” he wrote, emphasising that he would “continue to monitor this centuries-old conflict.”
The President also issued a stark warning: “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE OR, MASSIVE BLOODSHED WILL FOLLOW — SOMETHING THAT NOBODY WANTS TO SEE!”
On October 4, Hamas agreed to free all remaining Israeli hostages but insists on further talks over several key elements of the US peace plan.
In a statement, the group confirmed it would "release all Israeli prisoners, both living and deceased, in line with the exchange formula set out in President Trump's proposal"—provided the appropriate conditions for the exchanges are met.
However, it appears Hamas is seeking additional negotiations on other matters concerning Gaza’s future and Palestinian rights, which are reportedly still under discussion.
