Trump hopes for Russia-Ukraine peace deal before Christmas
US President Donald Trump said he will do everything possible to achieve a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine before Christmas.
During a press briefing at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the American leader stressed that he hopes Moscow and Kyiv can reach a settlement, adding that the negotiations are going well, Caliber.Az reports.
“The talks are going along, and they say there's tremendous hatred between these two leaders. Between President [Vladimir] Putin and President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy — enormous hatred.” Trump said.
The president also emphasised that under his leadership, the White House has resolved eight wars, with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict being the only exception.
Negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, European partners and Russia resumed in Miami from December 19 to December 21, 2025, with US envoys describing talks as “productive and constructive” and aimed at aligning a strategic peace plan, though key issues like security guarantees and territorial terms remain unresolved.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said peace discussions involving Ukraine, the US and European nations are approaching a concrete result based on a revised 20‑point framework, but both sides still face significant disagreements.
The Kremlin has cautioned that recent peace talks should not be viewed as a breakthrough, emphasising ongoing technical negotiations without final agreement and continued differences over core terms.
