Trump instructs NATO envoy Whitaker to push Europe off Russian oil
European countries should not be buying Russian oil, and such imports “will not continue for long,” U.S. President Donald Trump said.
The American leader made the remarks while speaking in Mount Vernon, Virginia, at a dinner organised in honour of the founder of the Cornerstone Institute, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He once again raised the issue of Europe’s energy dependence on Russia, stressing that European countries must stop purchasing Russian oil.
“Europeans are buying oil from Russia, which should not be happening, right? I don’t think this will go on much longer,” Trump stated.
Addressing U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matt Whitaker, Trump urged him to raise the issue with European partners:
“Matt, they need to stop buying oil from Russia. Talk to them, please,” he said, adding that “Matt will no longer allow this.”
In the context of the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, Trump once again voiced his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions.
