Trump: Iran reaching out in hopes for deal
US President Donald Trump said on March 5 that Iran had begun reaching out to the United States seeking a deal as US and Israeli military strikes continue against Iranian targets.
Speaking at the White House, Trump suggested Tehran was attempting to open negotiations amid mounting military pressure, CNN reports.
“They’re calling, they’re saying, ‘How do we make a deal?’” Trump said. “I said, ‘You’re being a little bit late, and we want to fight now more than they do.”
The president made the remarks while highlighting the progress in the ongoing military campaign carried out by US forces alongside Israel.
Trump asserted that the US military “continues to totally demolish the enemy.”
He did not specify who from the Iranian side had contacted Washington, nor did he indicate whether the outreach had led to any formal or serious efforts to broker a ceasefire.
