Trump: Iran wants deal with US “very badly”

07 February 2026 09:52

US President Donald Trump said on February 6 that the United States had “very good talks” with Iran and suggested that Tehran is eager to reach an agreement.

“We likewise, had very good talks on Iran. Iran looks like it wants to make a deal very badly. We have to see what that deal is. But I think Iran looks like they want to make a deal very badly,” the president said aboard Air Force One following indirect US-Iran talks held in Oman earlier in the day, Caliber.Az reports.

Trump also highlighted the US military presence in the region, stating, “We have a big armada, and we have a big fleet heading in that direction, gonna be there pretty soon. So we’ll see how that works out.”

The president indicated that further discussions are planned.

“We’re going to meet again early next week, and they want to make a deal, Iran, as they should want to make a deal. They know the consequences if they don’t. They don’t make a deal, the consequences are very steep,” he said.

The US delegation in Oman included Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

Earlier reports by CNN noted that the US and Iran had agreed to hold follow-on discussions after consultations with their respective capitals following the indirect talks in Oman. The outcome was viewed cautiously as a positive step by both sides, according to a source familiar with the talks.
