Trump jokes about leaving event early to “prosecute” war
U.S. President Donald Trump jokingly asked to leave a roundtable discussion at the State Department early, saying he had "a war to prosecute".
A video of the event was published on the White House’s YouTube channel, Caliber.Az reports.
“I didn’t know I was going to have so many people I’d be here all day. If you could go quickly, I would appreciate it. Because we have a war to prosecute. That is my excuse for getting out of here a little bit early,” Trump said.
Despite the remark, the event continued for about another 20 minutes, bringing its total duration to 36 minutes.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States and Iran could sign a new peace agreement in the near future, potentially on August 7 or 8.
