Trump jokes about press secretary choosing family over him

US President Donald Trump joked that former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had chosen to prioritise her children over him during remarks at a rally in South Carolina.

Trump said he had recently learned that Leavitt loved her newborn child more than she loved him, adding jokingly that he was “very angry” about it.

Trump’s remarks came after he announced on August 12 that Leavitt was stepping down from her position to spend more time with her young children and family.

The president said he understood and respected Levitt’s decision, while thanking her for what he described as her excellent work and calling her a true leader in the White House.

Leavitt had previously announced the birth of her second child.
