Trump keeps all options open as Iran halts mass executions
US President Donald Trump has not ruled out any options in response to Iran’s brutal crackdown on nationwide protests, the White House said, cautioning that continued repression could carry “grave consequences.”
“The president and his team have communicated to the Iranian regime that if the killing continues, there will be grave consequences,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a daily briefing, CNN reports.
Leavitt noted that Trump had received a message from the Iranian authorities indicating that “killing and executions” would cease. “The president understands today that 800 executions that were scheduled and supposed to take place yesterday were halted,” she added.
“The president and his team are closely monitoring this situation, and all options remain on the table for the president,” Leavitt emphasized, signaling the administration’s continued engagement with the crisis in Iran.
