Trump: "Leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia are my friends"
US President Donald Trump highlighted his close ties with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, emphasising the importance of peace and conflict resolution worldwide.
He made remarks at the Davos Board of Peace Charter signing, calling the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia his friends, Caliber.Az reports.
“Armenia and Azerbaijan, I mean, a lot of these leaders have become my friends. They become my friends, they are here,” Trump said.
The American leader also noted that his administration has settled eight wars, with another expected soon, referring to the conflict in Ukraine. He described it as a very exciting day, they had been waiting for a long time, and added that the war had been more difficult than initially expected, stressing that significant progress had already been made.
The President highlighted the strength of the US economy, reporting inflation of just 1.2% over the past three months. The American leader pointed out that they had inherited the worst inflation in the country’s history, and now economic growth was 5.4 percent, which could double or triple if acted on correctly.
He also mentioned that the US had attracted over $18 trillion in new investment, with the trade deficit falling 77 percent over the year, alongside historic trade agreements with global partners.
Trump further addressed international issues, stating that the war in Gaza was nearing its end and that Iran was seeking negotiations, with the United States planning to engage in talks. Regarding Venezuela, the American leader explained that the US was opening the country to major oil companies.
The US President added that the country’s defence budget for 2026 exceeds $1 trillion, with plans to increase it to $1.5 trillion in 2027.
He noted that the global situation has changed significantly over the past year, emphasising that today everything is fundamentally different from what it was just a year ago, when the world was, in essence, on fire, although many did not realise it.
Trump highlighted that a large part of the achieved successes was made possible by the restoration of the US armed forces during his first presidential term and their continued strengthening. The American leader explained that much of this unprecedented success was due to the rebuilding of the military in his first term and ongoing efforts to make it even stronger.
He further stated that he had secured commitments from almost all NATO allies to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP. Trump pointed out that virtually all countries agreed, except Spain, and expressed uncertainty about Spain’s stance, noting that all other countries had reached the 5% growth target and that discussions with Spain were needed.
