Trump leaves door open to new strikes on Iran before midterms

President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of further US military strikes against Iran before the midterm elections, while declining to say whether such action would actually be taken.

Asked whether Washington could consider military strikes against Iran again before the midterm elections, Trump refused to rule out the possibility, saying, “I don't want to say that. I don't want to say that. I mean, it's possible, but I just don't want to say that.”

At the same time, Trump expressed confidence that the war with Iran would be won “very soon,” saying that oil prices would fall sharply once the conflict ended.

“I think what's going to happen is we're going to win this war very soon, and as soon as we win it, the oil will go down, way down to what it was before the war,” Trump remarked at the PGA Tour Presidents Cup.

“And the key is, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” he added, stressing that nuclear deterrence was “key to the whole thing.”

Asked about Operation Economic Outcast and whether Washington was prevailing through military or economic pressure, Trump indicated that the US was succeeding on both fronts.

“I think both. I think we'll win it both ways. We've already won it really from a military standpoint,” he noted. “But that doesn't mean we've stopped that.”
