Trump leaves ground troop option open amid threats to Iran

05 April 2026 23:40

In a phone interview with ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, US President Donald Trump issued a forceful warning to Iran, saying he expects the Iranian government to reach a deal in “days, not weeks.”

“If it happens, it happens. And if it doesn't, we're blowing up the whole country,” Trump said. “We're blowing up, as I said, it's going to be bridge day and it's going to be power plant day in the country of Iran.”

Trump added that “very little” is “off limits” if no deal is reached. When asked whether that meant civilian infrastructure could be targeted, he replied, “I don't want to talk about that.”

The president also said he has not ruled out sending ground troops to Iran. “I don't think it's necessary, but I don't rule anything out,” he stated.

When questioned about extending the deadline to give Iran more time to negotiate a peace deal, Trump said, “They have plenty of time to make a deal.” He added bluntly, “They don't want to make a deal; their whole country is gone.”
