Trump Media to sell faster access to president's Truth Social posts
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) has launched a paid data service that will provide banks, trading firms and other financial institutions with faster access to posts from influential accounts on Truth Social, including those of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The move follows Trump’s departure from the traditional approach of communicating major policy decisions through official channels, as he has increasingly used social media to announce policies and make statements that can affect global markets, NBC News reports.
The new product, called “Truth API,” will provide customers with posts from the 10 most influential accounts on the platform at a significantly faster pace than standard push notifications on Truth Social, a company spokesperson said.
The service is aimed at organisations “most impacted by the cost of a delay in information”, including algorithmic trading firms, according to TMTG.
“Until now... firms that prioritize tracking influential Truth posts have relied on manual monitoring. Truth API closes the gap,” the company said in a statement.
The launch marks TMTG’s first move into data licensing and creates a new potential revenue stream for the company, which has faced challenges expanding its media business amid competition from larger social media platforms.
“Markets already move on Truth Social posts ... As adoption grows, we expect Truth API to become a meaningful, ongoing source of revenue for the company,” TMTG interim CEO Kevin McGurn said.
Trump has used his Truth Social account to make several announcements that have jolted markets worldwide, including his “Liberation Day” tariffs and statements on trade restrictions against China. The platform has consequently become an important source of information for traders, businesses and financial institutions.
The product will offer round-the-clock monitoring of influential posts and include an archive dating back to 2022. TMTG said it had already signed up customers ahead of the service’s planned launch on August 1.
According to a company spokesperson, some firms have been scraping Truth Social data for months in violation of TMTG’s terms of service.
“We’re going to create a lot of friction for those folks that aren’t coming to us directly,” McGurn said in a statement.
