Trump orders review of asylum cases, Green Cards from 19 countries

28 November 2025 10:23

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a sweeping review of asylum approvals granted under former President Joe Biden and of Green Cards issued to citizens of 19 countries, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials said on November 27.

The move follows a shooting near the White House in which two National Guard members were critically injured, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

Authorities say the Afghan suspect entered the U.S. in 2021 under a resettlement programme and was granted asylum earlier this year under Trump.

Hours after the attack, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) suspended all immigration requests from Afghan nationals indefinitely. DHS said the review will now extend to all asylum cases approved during the Biden administration.

USCIS Director Joseph Edlow said he was directing a “full-scale, rigorous reexamination” of Green Cards for all nationals from countries of concern, referencing a June travel ban Trump imposed on 19 nations, including Afghanistan, Venezuela, Burundi, Laos, Togo, Sierra Leone, and Turkmenistan.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has pursued an aggressive immigration agenda, including cutting the refugee admissions cap for 2026 to 7,500.
