Trump orders US flags lowered in honour of Charlie Kirk VIDEO
U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered American flags across the country to be lowered to half-mast in tribute to influential right-wing activist Charlie Kirk and his supporter, who were killed in an assassination.
Trump announced the move on his social media platform, Truth Social, writing, “In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.”
The gesture was further highlighted by Trump’s aide, Margo Martin, who posted a video on X showing the U.S. flag lowered at the White House. She captioned the post: “The White House flags have officially been lowered to half mast in honor of a truly great American. Rest in peace.”

Charlie Kirk, founder of the conservative youth organisation Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, during a public speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The shooting occurred around 12:20 p.m. MDT, approximately 20 minutes into his "American Comeback Tour" appearance, before an audience of about 3,000 people. The assailant fired from a nearby rooftop, striking Kirk in the neck. He was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead later that afternoon at the age of 31.
Authorities have labelled the incident a "political assassination." Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the act, stating, "This is a dark day for our state. It's a tragic day for our nation." The FBI is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. Two individuals were initially detained but later released after questioning, with no charges filed. The shooter remains at large.
Kirk was a prominent figure in conservative politics, known for mobilising young voters and advocating for issues such as Second Amendment rights and opposition to abortion. His death has sparked widespread condemnation across the political spectrum and raised concerns about escalating political violence in the United States.
