Trump plans to discuss possible US withdrawal from NATO with Rutte
U.S. President Donald Trump intends to discuss with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte the possibility of the United States leaving the alliance.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said this during a briefing on April 8, responding to a question about whether Trump’s desire to exit NATO is still relevant.
“It's something the president has discussed and I think it's something the president will be discussing in a couple of hours with Secretary General Rutte and perhaps you'll hear directly from the president following that meeting later this afternoon,” she said.
Earlier reports indicated that Rutte and Trump are set to meet on April 8 at the White House to discuss, among other things, disagreements between the U.S. and NATO regarding the situation with Iran.
