Trump posts image depicting Strait of Hormuz as "new U.S. territory"

US President Donald Trump posted a map of the Strait of Hormuz area on his Truth Social account, calling it a new US territory.

The caption above the image reads, “New U.S. territory Strait of Hormuz,” Caliber.Az reports.

The US and Iran both claim control of the strait.

Last week, US President Donald Trump claimed that Washington had “complete control” of the Strait of Hormuz and that the U.S. maritime blockade had left Iran unable to act.

The spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the country’s wartime command centre, rejected the claim, saying the strategic waterway remained under Iranian control. He added that vessels could not safely transit the strait without authorization from Iran’s armed forces.

Shipping-monitoring data indicate that maritime traffic through the strait remains far below pre-war levels. Only around 10 to 12 vessels have been crossing each day in recent days, compared with approximately 130 to 140 before the war, with most of the vessels currently following a route designated by Iran.
