Trump proposes Operation Aurora to deport Venezuelan gang members if elected

13 October 2024 10:06

At a rally in Aurora, Colorado, former President Donald Trump introduced a new priority for his mass deportation program, pledging to target and deport members of the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua if re-elected.

The rally comes in the wake of a viral video showing Venezuelan men with firearms in an Aurora apartment complex, sparking rumours of gang control in the area, Caliber.Az reports, citing WSJ.

Trump announced Operation Aurora, a plan focused on arresting and deporting all known Venezuelan gang members in the US illegally. He vowed to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, a law passed in 1798 but not used since World War II, allowing him to deport individuals without trial.

“They come from the dungeons—think of that—the dungeons of the Third World,” Trump said, blaming Vice President Kamala Harris for the increase in migrant arrivals.

Trump also called for the death penalty for any migrant who kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer, underscoring what he described as a growing threat of "migrant crime" in the country. His proposal is part of a broader platform aimed at intensifying immigration enforcement in response to concerns about public safety.

Moreover, at the rally, Trump cited a statistic, released in a letter from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to a Republican member of Congress, that approximately 13,000 immigrants in the country illegally have been convicted of murder.
