Trump-Putin Alaska summit: Meeting time and agenda revealed
The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at 11 a.m. local time (1900 GMT) on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska.
President Trump is set to depart Washington at 6:45 a.m. EDT (1045 GMT) and will return from Anchorage late Friday, arriving back at the White House early on August 16, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
On August 14, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the Russian delegation was approaching the talks with a businesslike attitude. “The discussions will be practical, and naturally, we are all in a constructive frame of mind,” he noted.
The Russian delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defence Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Ushakov, and presidential envoy for international investment and economic cooperation Kirill Dmitriev.
Ushakov said the Ukraine conflict would be the central focus of the talks, with leaders also expected to address bilateral cooperation, including economic and trade relations.
The military base, created in 2010 by merging Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, has strategic significance and hosts advanced aircraft such as F-22 Raptors. Analysts note the secure setting allows Trump to demonstrate U.S. strength while minimising public disruption.
The meeting comes as Trump seeks a ceasefire deal he pledged during his 2024 campaign, while Ukrainian and European officials have expressed concern that private negotiations could produce concessions to Moscow.
Trump has hinted at future talks involving land swaps and a potential summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
