Trump proposes US control of Gaza Strip after conflict, promises safer future for residents

06 February 2025 17:11

In a bold and controversial proposal, shared on his Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump has suggested that Israel could hand over control of the Gaza Strip to the United States after the ongoing conflict concludes.

“The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting,” Trump suggested, per Caliber.Az

“The Palestinians, people like Chuck Schumer, would have already been resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities, with new and modern homes, in the region. They would actually have a chance to be happy, safe, and free. The US, working with great development teams from all over the world, would slowly and carefully begin the construction of what would become one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth. No soldiers by the US would be needed! Stability for the region would reign!!!” he wrote.

Trump's comments came after he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a joint press conference, during which he revealed plans for the United States to assume control of Gaza, relocate its residents to other nations, and spearhead a reconstruction initiative for the area.

“All 1.8 million residents of the Gaza Strip should be relocated to countries like Egypt and Jordan,” Trump stated, as reported by Israeli media. “Hamas must be destroyed,” he added, emphasizing that the current residents should not remain in Gaza nor be involved in its reconstruction.

Trump labelled Gaza a “symbol of misery and destruction” and suggested its residents would have better prospects elsewhere. “You have to reach out to countries with a good heart that will provide new places for the people of Gaza to live,” he remarked, proposing that the costs of relocation could be covered by “the rich countries in the region.”

He further criticized Gaza’s current state, describing it as “just a destroyed place.” He assured that displaced residents would find “beautiful, safe homes, in harmony and peace” in their new locations.

“The US will take control of the Gaza Strip and we will work with it,” Trump asserted. “We’ll take responsibility for demining and more. We’ll level everything—all the destroyed homes. Let’s create an economy that can provide endless jobs and homes for people, only if they don’t go back. You can’t go back there. Otherwise, it will happen again.”
