Trump’s envoy shuts down Ukraine’s membership hopes
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg has said that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO — a position the US has maintained since 2008.
"Let me give you one example. The example is that we've been very clear. NATO's off the table. You're not going to be part of NATO," Kellogg said, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Kellogg emphasised that while NATO membership is not under consideration, the United States is moving ahead with a significant bilateral agreement on critical minerals. The pending deal would allow the US to secure access to essential minerals and precious metals not extracted domestically, a step he described as crucial to bolstering the country’s industrial capacity.
The special envoy noted that this agreement with Ukraine will help supply American industry with vital resources and highlighted that Washington’s intent to deepen economic cooperation, even as political and military boundaries remain defined. Kellogg also shared updates from a recent meeting in Paris involving Ukrainian and NATO officials, during which the possibility of a near-term ceasefire was discussed. While no agreement has yet been finalized, he confirmed that negotiations will resume next week in London.
