Trump's son-in-law presents plan for rebuilding Gaza PHOTO
Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, presented an ambitious plan for rebuilding Gaza onstage at the “Board of Peace” event in Davos, Switzerland.
According to Kushner, the plan, outlined through a series of slides, would begin with Gaza’s southern city of Rafah and progress in phases across the enclave, Caliber.Az reports.
“We said, let’s plan for catastrophic success,” Kushner said as he addressed the audience. He suggested that Rafah — largely destroyed during Israel’s military campaign against Hamas — could be rebuilt in two to three years, while the full reconstruction of Gaza would require at least $25 billion in investment. It remains unclear which parties will fund the project.
Kushner emphasised that Hamas must demilitarise for the plan to succeed, presenting a slide listing “demilitarisation principles,” including the establishment of a single civilian authority in Gaza. Another slide, titled “New Gaza,” depicted a futuristic city with skyscrapers lining the coast.
Meanwhile, Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s special envoy, also spoke at the event, alongside Kushner. Reflecting on his role in brokering the recent release of Israeli hostages, Kushner said, “Peace is a different deal than a business deal because you’re changing a mindset.” He noted that the 20-point peace plan for Gaza was designed to address these challenges.
Ali Shaath, leader of the U.S.-backed committee of Palestinian technocrats for Gaza, told attendees that the enclave’s border with Egypt would reopen next week.
“The border is a lifeline,” Shaath said, referring to the Rafah crossing, which has long been closed, trapping many Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has publicly opposed reopening the crossing until Hamas returns the remains of the last hostage, which has not yet happened.
