Trump: Saudi Arabia makes largest aircraft purchase in aviation history 160 Planes from Boeing
Saudi Arabia has placed an unprecedented order for 160 aircraft with Boeing, in what is being described as the largest single deal in aviation history, said U.S. President Donald Trump at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
Speaking to U.S. troops, Trump highlighted the magnitude of the agreement, noting its significance for American industry and its ties to the Gulf region, Caliber.Az reports, citing White House.
“Boeing just by the way did the biggest order in the history of Boeing just uh did with your beautiful territory right here they ordered I think 160 planes i think it's the largest order ever for aircraft so I salute the people from Boeing Kelly and everybody and General Electric the engines are General Electric Super Prime,” Trump said.
To recall, State carrier Qatar Airways signed a deal on May 14 to purchase jets from U.S. manufacturer Boeing during Trump's visit to the Gulf Arab country.
Trump claimed the deal was worth over $200 billion, calling it "the largest order of jets in the history of Boeing."
Trump and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the signing ceremony, where Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg and Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer formalised the agreement.
"It's over $200 billion, but 160 in terms of the jets, that's fantastic," Trump said. "So that's a record, Kelly, and congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there, get them out there."
Details about the specific aircraft models involved or whether the orders are firm or optional were not disclosed. Based on the most recent list prices, 160 Boeing 777x jets would be valued around $70 billion, though large-scale deals often include steep discounts.
