Trump says Cuba “ready to fall,” questions need for action
US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that Cuba is on the verge of collapse, speaking to reporters, according to a broadcast shared on the White House YouTube channel and reported by Caliber.Az.
“Cuba is ready to fall. You know, Cuba looks like it's ready to fall,” Trump said during his remarks.
At the same time, the US leader questioned whether any action against the Cuban Republic is necessary, suggesting that the country will simply fall on its own.
Earlier, Trump publicly stated that the United States wants to assist Cuba following the military operation in Venezuela. “I think Cuba is going to be something we’ll end up talking about because Cuba is a failing nation right now. Very badly failing nation … We want to help the people in Cuba, but we want to also help the people that were forced out of Cuba and living in this country,” he added.
On January 5, Cuba declared a period of mourning following the deaths of dozens of citizens during efforts to protect Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is of Cuban descent, warned the country of serious consequences.
