Trump says Europe should reimburse US for $350 billion in Ukraine aid

20 June 2026 11:45

U.S. President Donald Trump has said European countries should compensate the United States for military assistance provided to Ukraine under former President Joe Biden, putting the total value of aid at around $350 billion.

Speaking during an address at Andrews Air Force Base, Trump emphasised the scale of U.S. military support to Ukraine and suggested that European allies had not contributed proportionally, Caliber.Az reports.

“Think of it, $350 billion worth of planes, 300 of of weapons of all kinds and other things,” he said.

According to Trump, the expectation that European states would cover the cost of U.S. assistance had not been part of their plans.

“A lot was given away by Biden to Ukraine, and they should pay for it. Meaning, the Europeans should pay for it, but that wasn’t in the cards for them, ” Trump emphasised.

Trump has repeatedly criticised the scale and oversight of U.S. aid to Ukraine. In February 2025, he estimated total U.S. support at more than $300 billion, compared with roughly $100 billion from European allies.

He later raised the figure to about $350 billion and described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as an “excellent salesman,” saying he had successfully persuaded the Biden administration to increase assistance levels.
