Trump says Iran to be held responsible for future Houthi attacks

US President Donald Trump warned Iran on July 23 that Washington would hold it responsible for any future attacks by Yemen's Houthis, after the group allegedly targeted two Saudi Arabian ships overnight.

In a post on Truth Social, he said the United States launched powerful strikes against the Houthis a year ago in response to attacks on commercial shipping and said the group had since acted "very responsibly," including during the recent conflict with Iran, Caliber.Az reports.

He accused the Houthis of resuming attacks by firing on two Saudi vessels the previous night and warned of severe consequences if such incidents continue.

"If they do this again, the U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a Surrogate and/or Proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis, themselves," Trump noted.

He added that he was "very disappointed" with the Houthis because they had, until now, "acted very professionally and smart."
