Trump says Iran will pay for damage caused by attacks

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that any damage to ships, cargo, or related property resulting from attacks by Iran will be compensated using Iranian assets under U.S. control.

Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, saying the measure would remain in effect until further notice.

"Please let this statement serve to represent, until further notice, that from this point forth, any and all damages done to Ships, Cargo, or anything related thereto, will be paid for by Iranian Money that the United States has in its possession, and controls. These damages may be very substantial but, nevertheless, this is the fair and equitable thing to do," Trump wrote.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with both sides exchanging sharp rhetoric over regional security and maritime incidents.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised Trump's announcement, describing the proposed measure as "an incendiary precedent" that would only fuel further escalation.
