Trump says Ukraine “could still win” war, but calls it unlikely
US President Donald Trump stated that while Ukraine still has a chance to win its war against Russia, he considers such an outcome improbable.
“They could still win it. I don’t think they will, but they could still win it,” Trump told reporters at the White House, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
His remarks come just weeks after he suggested that Ukraine might be able to regain all of the territory it has lost to Russia during the course of the prolonged conflict. However, following a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump appears to have shifted his stance once again — now advocating for a ceasefire based on current territorial control.
According to Trump, “Kyiv must give up swaths of land” for the war to end, indicating his support for freezing the conflict along existing front lines.
President Trump pushed back against claims that he had predicted a Ukrainian victory.
“I said they could win. Anything could happen. You know, war is a very strange thing. A lot of bad things happen. A lot of good things happen,” he said.
