Trump reveals US carried out “secret mission” in Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump has revealed that he ordered the US military last month to carry out a secret operation to escort oil tankers and other commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
“Last month, I directed our Great U.S. Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through the Strait, and into the Open Market. More than 200 Commercial Ships have safely traveled through the Strait. This wildly successful effort is because the UNITED STATES of AMERICA CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz — NOT Iran. Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It’s over for Iran!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The Strait of Hormuz became a major flashpoint after the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran in late February 2026, prompting Iran to declare the waterway closed and attack ships transiting it, which severely disrupted global oil and gas flows that normally account for about one-fifth of world supply.
In response, the US imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and conducted strikes on Iranian naval assets, while coordinating limited escort operations for commercial vessels amid ongoing attacks and threats.
Tensions have involved repeated incidents, including shipboardings, tanker disablements, and Iranian attempts to reassert control through checkpoints and fees, with stalled ceasefire talks complicating safe passage.
