Trump says US-Iran talks going well, calls for patience

22 April 2025 09:07

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that negotiations between the United States and Iran are going very well, but time is needed to understand what their outcome will be.

“We’ve had very good meetings on Iran. We’ll see what comes out of it,” he told reporters at the White House, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

“The next step — we need a little time, but we’ve had very good meetings on Iran,” Trump said.

The second round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks took place on April 19, 2025, in Rome, following an initial meeting in Oman a week earlier. The discussions were mediated by Oman and led by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both sides described the talks as "constructive" and agreed to continue negotiations.

Key issues included Iran's uranium enrichment program, which the U.S. seeks to dismantle, while Iran insists on maintaining for peaceful purposes. The parties agreed to commence expert-level discussions in Oman on April 23, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for April 26.

These talks occur amid heightened tensions, with President Trump issuing a 60-day ultimatum for substantial progress or potential military action. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has expressed cautious optimism, while Israel has not ruled out a military strike.
