Trump says Xi was right about US decline under Biden
U.S. President Donald Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping was “100% correct” in suggesting the United States is a “declining nation,” but argued the comment referred to the previous administration of Joe Biden and not his own presidency.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump said Xi’s remark reflected “tremendous damage” he claimed the United States suffered during Biden’s four years in office, citing immigration, taxes, crime, trade policy and social issues.
“When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps being a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden and the Biden Administration, and on that score, he was 100% correct,” Trump wrote.
Trump added that the United States had since undergone what he called a “dramatic recovery” over the past 16 months, pointing to record stock market levels, job growth, increased foreign investment and a strengthening military.
He also said Xi had personally congratulated him on U.S. economic and policy achievements during their recent meetings in Beijing, though he did not provide details.
Moreover, Xi has previously warned of global instability linked to great power rivalry, while urging cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
Trump said he hoped the U.S.-China relationship would be “stronger and better than ever before” going forward.
