Trump schedules intelligence briefing on Iran, warns of tough action if talks fail

12 February 2026 09:13

US President Donald Trump is set to receive a classified intelligence briefing on February 12 amid escalating tensions with Iran, according to the White House schedule.

The closed-door meeting is due to take place in the Oval Office at 11:00 local time and will not be open to members of the media, Caliber.Az reports.

Later in the day, Trump is expected to deliver a joint statement with the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency at 13:30. The president is also scheduled to participate in two additional closed meetings at 15:00 and 17:30.

The development follows recent warnings from Trump, who threatened to take extremely tough action against Iran if a new agreement cannot be reached with the Islamic Republic.

The US president also alluded to possible further strikes, referencing an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities last summer.

Earlier, Trump said he favours continuing negotiations with Iran following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while warning of consequences if talks fail.

“I have just finished meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu… It was a very good meeting, the tremendous relationship between our two Countries continues,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

According to him, no final decisions were reached but stressed diplomacy remains his preferred option. “I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue to see whether or not a Deal can be consummated. If it can, that will be a preference,” he said.

He cautioned that failure to reach an agreement could lead to an uncertain outcome, referencing previous U.S. military action. “Last time Iran decided that they were better off not making a Deal, and they were hit with Midnight Hammer — That did not work well for them,” Trump added.

Trump also said discussions covered developments in Gaza and the wider Middle East, claiming “tremendous progress” in the region.

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that Omani officials relayed several messages from the United States to Iran following the end of the first round of indirect talks.

"We did not send letters to the Americans, but our friends in Oman conveyed some messages from the US to us, which we will study in Tehran," he said on Iranian state television following his visits to Oman and Qatar.
