Trump shares image labelling Venezuela as “51st state” of US PHOTO
US President Donald Trump has posted an image on his Truth Social platform showing a map of Venezuela overlaid with the US flag and the caption “51st state.”
Venezuela had already dismissed any notion of relinquishing sovereignty to the United States.
Speaking on May 11 in The Hague during proceedings at the International Court of Justice, Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez stated that Venezuela “has no plans” and “will never become” part of the United States, emphasising the country’s independence and territorial integrity.
She also framed the statement as incompatible with international law and reiterated that Venezuela will not accept any form of external political control.
In broader remarks, Rodríguez linked such statements to wider geopolitical pressure on Venezuela, insisting that disputes involving her country should be resolved through diplomacy rather than unilateral political declarations.
She underlined that Venezuela continues to defend its sovereignty in parallel with ongoing international legal proceedings and regional tensions.
