Trump stands firm on Gaza relocation plan, dismisses Egypt, Jordan's rejections “They will do it”

31 January 2025 10:57

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, despite both countries' firm rejections.

Speaking to reporters on January 30, Trump insisted that the two nations would eventually comply, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

“They will do it. They will do it. They’re going to do it, okay? We do a lot for them, and they’re going to do it.”

Trump’s comments come after his call over the weekend to “clean out” Gaza and resettle Palestinians, describing the area as a “demolition site” following Israel's war on Gaza. His proposal has drawn widespread criticism, with many labelling it “ethnic cleansing” and a potential “war crime.”

The suggestion follows a ceasefire agreement that took effect on January 19, halting Israel's military offensive in Gaza, which has claimed more than 47,400 Palestinian lives, according to health authorities in the enclave.

The violence, which began after Hamas launched a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, also resulted in nearly 1,200 deaths in Israel and the kidnapping of 250 hostages.

Despite the proposal, both Egypt and Jordan have strongly rejected any move to displace Palestinians from Gaza, stressing their opposition to the plan. This proposal has sparked outrage across the Arab and Muslim world, with European nations such as France also condemning it.
