Trump targets foreign pharmaceuticals with potential tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again hinted at imposing tariffs on foreign-made pharmaceuticals, a move that could have significant ramifications for the global drug industry, particularly Ireland’s pharmaceutical sector.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump reiterated his intention to introduce tariffs “in order to bring our pharmaceutical industry back.” While he did not specify the exact timing or scope of the measure, he indicated that such tariffs could be as high as 25% or more, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“We don’t make anything here in terms of drugs, medical drugs, different types of drugs you might need medically,” Trump said. “It’s all in other countries, largely made in China, a lot of it made in Ireland. Ireland was very smart, we love Ireland.”
