Trump threatens prison terms over claims of US ammunition shortages

US President Donald Trump asserted that the United States has substantial ammunition stockpiles, particularly of “certain types,” and continues to expand domestic production.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused unnamed individuals of spreading what he described as “treasonous” claims about US ammunition supplies and vowed legal action against those responsible, Caliber.Az reports.

“The U.S. has massive amounts of 'munitions,' especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history. The 'leakers' of these treasonous statements are being hunted down. Long term jail sentences will be sought!” the president wrote.

Earlier, The Washington Post (WP) reported that Trump had demanded an explanation from Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth over reported shortages in the US arsenal, including air defence missiles, during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David.

According to the newspaper's sources, Trump believed he had been misled about the size of US ammunition stockpiles and had assumed the shortage had already been resolved.

The report also said Hegseth defended himself during the meeting and blamed his deputy, Stephen Feinberg, for both the ammunition shortages and the president's incomplete briefing, citing two sources.

US officials, however, dismissed reports of a heated exchange between the defence secretary and the president as unfounded.
