Trump threatens to block housing bill over Save America Act
US President Donald Trump has threatened to block a housing bill approved by Congress over the Save America Act.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he will not sign the bill unless the Senate passes the Save America Act, linking his support for the legislation to voting reform measures, Caliber.Az reports.
Trump protested the Senate's failure to advance the act.
According to Trump, the proposed legislation would require voters to present photo identification, provide proof of US citizenship and sharply restrict mail-in voting, with exceptions for military personnel, people with disabilities, the sick and those travelling.
The US president also called on Republicans to abolish the Senate filibuster rule if necessary to pass the bill and other legislative priorities.
Trump warned that Democrats would eliminate the filibuster themselves if they regained power and criticised Republicans he believes are insufficiently supportive of his agenda.
“The Save America Act’s non-passage is crazy, and a serious threat to any politician who votes against it! If the Dumocrats, or any RINO (or worse!) working with them, do not allow a positive Vote on Save America, terminate the filibuster, and pass this, and every other Bill that true Republicans have ever dreamt of (In addition to the upcoming Budget BOMB and the 1929 catastrophic style debt ceiling bill!),” he wrote.
