Trump unveils plans for Paris-inspired arch near veterans cemetery

US President Donald Trump wants to see constructed in the US capital, inspired by the famous Parisian counterpart.

The administration said it has formally submitted the plans to the Commission of Fine Arts, a panel that will review the proposal next week. Trump confirmed the move on April 10 via his Truth Social account, according to Caliber.Az.

"I am pleased to announce that TODAY my Administration officially filed the presentation and plans to the highly respected Commission of Fine Arts for what will be the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World," Trump wrote. "This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!"

The proposed structure is planned near the Potomac River, close to Arlington National Cemetery. Renderings show a winged Lady Liberty atop the arch, flanked by two large eagles. The design, created by Harrison Design, prominently features the phrase “One Nation Under God” and includes four large golden lions at the base of Memorial Circle.

In a statement to NBC News, White House spokesman Davis Ingle said the arch “will enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen, and all Americans alike, serving as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices borne by so many American heroes throughout our 250 year history so we can enjoy our freedoms today.”

When Trump first introduced the idea last year, he said the monument would draw inspiration from the Arc de Triomphe that stands in the French capital, and serve as a symbolic gateway into Washington for those crossing Memorial Bridge from Arlington.
