Trump urges Canada to contain wildfires, says “our air is poisoned”

US President Donald Trump has urged Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to step up efforts to bring wildfires under control, saying "Our air is poisoned" by smoke drifting south from Canada.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews on July 19, Trump noted that If US can help them, they will, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The US president also suggested Canada could be asked to provide compensation or face tariffs.

"Maybe they should pay us some damages or something, or we should do some tariffs," he added.

According to the latest figures from Canadian authorities, nearly 950 wildfires are burning across the country, with about 130 of them still out of control.
