Trump voices optimism on Andrej Babiš’s appointment as new Czech PM
US President Donald Trump has welcomed the appointment of Andrej Babiš as prime minister of the Czech Republic, expressing strong optimism about future cooperation.
Writing on Truth Social, the American leader emphasised that together with Babiš, they would once again achieve great success in defence, energy, and the fight against illegal immigration, Caliber.Az reports.
“Andrej knows how to get Deals done, and I expected incredible things from him, including on F-35s. Congratulations Andrej,” Trump noted.
Andrej Babiš is a Czech billionaire and politician who founded the ANO party. He previously served as Prime Minister from 2017 to 2021, returned to power for a third time on December 15, 2025, after his party won the parliamentary elections in October 2025.
His new government is a coalition with right‑wing and anti‑migration partners, and early signals show it will take tougher stances on EU policies on migration and climate rules, reflecting a shift from the previous pro‑EU government.
Babiš, one of Czechia’s richest people through his Agrofert conglomerate, has long been a polarising figure domestically and internationally, facing scrutiny over conflicts of interest and allegations related to his business holdings and past political controversies.
