Trump vows $2,000 for every American from tariff revenues

10 November 2025 09:45

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that every American citizen will receive $2,000 from the revenue generated by tariffs.

In a post on social network Truth Social, Trump said those who oppose tariffs are “fools.” He asserted that the United States is now “the richest and most respected country in the world,” with near-zero inflation and record-high stock prices across all markets, Caliber.Az reports.

The American president added that the country is seeing record levels of investment in public infrastructure, factories, and manufacturing facilities: “Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place. A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

Trump emphasised that revenues from import tariffs will make it possible to cover the national debt: "We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion."

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has reintroduced and dramatically expanded his signature “America First” trade agenda, placing tariffs at the center of U.S. economic policy. Building on the protectionist framework of his first term (2017–2021), Trump has sought to reshape global trade by imposing broad import duties aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, cutting the trade deficit, and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

Immediately after taking office, Trump signed the “America First Trade Policy” memorandum, ordering reviews of all major U.S. trade relationships and directing the use of tariffs as a primary economic tool. His administration has invoked several legal authorities to justify these measures — including Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which allows tariffs on national security grounds, and the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), declaring a “national emergency” over chronic trade imbalances.

In February 2025, the United States announced 25 per cent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, citing trade and border security concerns. This was followed in April 2025 by the so-called “Liberation Day Tariffs”, under which a 10 per cent blanket tariff was applied to almost all imported goods, with higher, country-specific rates — up to 50 per cent — targeting around 60 nations, including China, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, and Brazil. An additional 25 per cent duties were imposed on imported automobiles and car parts, invoking national-security provisions.
