Trump demands death penalty for man accused of killing Ukrainian woman
US President Donald Trump has called for the death penalty to be given to a perpetrator in a North Carolina murder case that is currently causing shockwaves around the country.
The president has commented on the fatal stabbing of a young Ukrainian woman in a public train last month, Caliber.Az reports.
Publishing a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump has called for prosecutors to sentence him to death.
"The ANIMAL who so violently killed the beautiful young lady from Ukraine, who came to America searching for peace and safety, should be given a “quick” [there is no doubt!] trial, and only awarded THE DEATH PENALTY. There can be no other option!!!" his post read.
Iryna Zarutska was a 23-years-old Ukrainian woman who had recently come to the United States to escape the war. She was working at a local restaurant and still wearing her job's uniform when she entered the Charlotte Area Transit System train. Newly released surveillance footage shows how a passenger sitting in the row behind her, identified as Decarlos Brown Jr., stood up on the seat just behind Zarutska shortly after she sat down and started stabbing her, seemingly completely unprovoked.
While the murder occurred last month, video footage has been released only recently. The case has caused widespread condemnation of law enforcement agencies as Brown has a criminal history spanning over a decade, including felony breaking and entering and robbery with a dangerous weapon, for which he served a five-year prison sentence, according to court records.
It also sparked a debate over race issues with conservative media outlets accusing liberal publications of neglecting to report on all facts of the crime.
