Trump warns Iran nuclear ambitions threaten Middle East
US President Donald Trump said the United States will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, describing the country as an “evil Empire” that could destabilise the Middle East and the world.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasised that while the US, as the world’s largest oil producer, benefits financially from rising oil prices, his top priority is preventing Iran from developing nuclear capabilities, Caliber.Az reports.
“I won’t ever let that happen! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump wrote.
He also noted that the United States is the largest oil producer in the world, by far, "so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money."
The comments come amid a global oil emergency, as Iran has threatened attacks on any ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial chokepoint through which roughly a fifth of the world’s crude travels. Dozens of countries have responded by releasing historic amounts of crude from emergency reserves to stabilise markets and prevent high oil prices from crippling the global economy.
