Trump weighs military strikes on Iran’s Fordo nuclear facility

US President Donald Trump is increasingly considering military action against Iran’s Fordo Fuel Enrichment Plant, according to an intelligence source familiar with the matter who spoke to ABC News. 

It would not be just one strike on the facility, it would be several, the source said. There is now a movement to get ready for this, the source added, Caliber.Az quotes ABC News. 

Preparations are reportedly underway as Trump gauges support, including testing reactions among his MAGA base through Vice President JD Vance regarding potential American strikes on Iran. Meanwhile, Trump has been briefed on security concerns at US Army bases, which could be vulnerable to retaliatory attacks.

Iran has remained silent amid ongoing nuclear negotiations, likely in response to Trump’s demand for an unconditional surrender. 

The president's position on a potential attack comes as the Israelis discovered that they did not take out all air defences in Iran as they had previously thought, adding to concern.

The Fordo facility, Iran’s second-largest nuclear enrichment site after Natanz, is embedded deep inside a mountain near Qom, roughly 60 miles southwest of Tehran. Operational since 2009, Fordo is shielded by Iranian and Russian surface-to-air missile systems, some of which may have already been targeted during Israeli air campaigns.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly affirmed that dismantling Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, including Fordo, is crucial to Israel’s national security.

“This entire operation ... really has to be completed with the elimination of Fordo,” said Yechiel Leiter, Israel’s ambassador to the US on June 13.
