Trump weighs seizing Iran’s Kharg Island as tanker blockade persists
US President Donald Trump is considering a potential operation to seize Iran’s Kharg Island, home to the country’s key oil infrastructure, Axios reports, citing sources.
The operation would require a ground intervention and could be undertaken if tankers in the Persian Gulf remain blocked.
A senior White House official noted that while the blockade persists and oil exports from the region are restricted, Trump cannot finish the war, even if he wants to.
The president has not made a final decision regarding the island, but according to the source, he “is not going to wait around and let the Iranians dictate the pace of the conflict.”
Kharg Island, located in the northern Persian Gulf, is considered a critical “oil artery” for Iran, handling roughly 90% of the country’s oil exports.
