Turkish Airlines jet diverts to India following midair engine fire warning
A Turkish Airlines aircraft flying from Kathmandu to Istanbul with 236 passengers and 11 crew members on board made an emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in eastern India after a warning indicated a fire in the right engine.
According to an airport official cited by Hindustan Times, the pilot contacted air traffic control in Kolkata to request an emergency landing. All required safety measures were immediately put in place, and firefighting teams were dispatched.
The alert for a possible fire in the right engine sounded shortly after takeoff, prompting the pilot to shut down the engine at once. Despite this, the aircraft continued flying for more than an hour on a single engine.
Rather than returning to Kathmandu, the plane proceeded to Kolkata, where it landed safely at 15:50. After touchdown, the aircraft was towed to a secure area for inspection once all passengers and crew had disembarked.
No injuries were reported, and the situation remained under control as authorities began examining the aircraft.
