Turkish Aselsan secures $50-million deal to boost Morocco’s electronic warfare capabilities PHOTO

29 January 2025 21:44

Turkish defence firm Aselsan has secured a $50.7-million contract to provide the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces with the Koral electronic warfare system.

With these advanced Turkish weapons and defence technologies, Morocco is poised to become a stronger regional power, especially as security challenges continue to intensify, Caliber.Az reports, citing a report published on The Defense Post.

According to the report, Morocco and Aselsan are also reportedly in talks to acquire a new combat management system, aimed at bolstering the kingdom’s naval defence capabilities. Once fully implemented, the expanded arms collaboration could help Morocco diversify its sources of armaments and establish a competitive national defence industry.

Morocco has also become a key customer of Turkish defence systems, with past acquisitions including Bayraktar TB2 combat drones and Cobra II armoured vehicles.

In November 2024, Morocco announced plans to acquire Türkiye’s Akinci drones, with initial deliveries set for next month.

Morocco has recently intensified its defence cooperation with Türkiye, seeking to modernize its military arsenal and enhance its strategic capabilities.

The Moroccan capital Rabat has recently hosted a delegation from Türkiye’s leading defence firm, Aselsan, to discuss potential collaborations in local arms production and defence technology. The partnership is set to focus on electronic systems, smart solutions, and unmanned aerial platforms, offering new job opportunities for Moroccan technical specialists.
