Turkish chief prosecutor visits Azerbaijan, eyes legal cooperation PHOTO

06 April 2026 16:27

Müshin Şentürk, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Türkiye, arrived in Azerbaijan on an official visit at the invitation of Azerbaijani Chief Prosecutor Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan said.

During his visit, Şentürk paid tribute to prominent Azerbaijani figures by laying wreaths at the Alley of Honour, including at the graves of national leader Heydar Aliyev and renowned ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva, Caliber.Az reports.

The delegation also visited the Alley of Martyrs, honouring those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s independence, as well as a monument dedicated to Turkish soldiers who died defending the country’s territorial integrity. The visit concluded with a stop at Baku’s Victory Park.

At a subsequent meeting between Aliyev and Şentürk, officials emphasised the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, noting that close cooperation between their law enforcement agencies continues to expand.

The leaders highlighted the enduring “one nation, two states” principle, championed by Heydar Aliyev, which has strengthened under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting also focused on the impact of this cooperation on the legal systems of both countries, the enhancement of anti-crime measures, and the expansion of international legal collaboration.

Aliyev briefed his Turkish counterpart on Azerbaijan’s ongoing legal reforms, including the digitalisation of public prosecutor offices, implementation of modern management practices, and institutional development initiatives.

In addition, the effectiveness of joint activities within international organisations was discussed, and cooperation between the prosecution services of both countries within international organisations—particularly within the Council of Prosecutors General of the Turkic Member States—was expanded; the importance of legal cooperation, the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint initiatives was emphasised.

During the meeting, Şentürk was presented with Azerbaijan’s commemorative medal marking the "100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor’s Office."

The meeting was also attended by Birol Akgün Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
