Turkish, Egyptian leaders to discuss situation in Gaza

22 August 2024 21:40

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will visit Türkiye on September 4.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will welcome his Egyptian counterpart at the Presidential Complex in Bestepe, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

The leaders will co-chair a meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The primary focus of discussions is expected to be Gaza, but the meeting will also address the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Türkiye-Egypt relations have undergone significant shifts over the years, marked by periods of cooperation and tension. The relationship began to strengthen in the early 2000s, particularly under the leadership of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Both countries cooperated on various economic and political issues. Türkiye and Egypt are key players in the Middle East and North Africa. Their strategic interests often intersect, including issues related to regional security, the Palestinian territories, and energy resources.
