Turkish FM says peace between US and Iran may be reached soon
The United States and Iran have likely reached an understanding on the final version of a prospective agreement, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with South Korea-based broadcaster JTBC.
“I am very optimistic because I regularly consult with both sides, with Pakistan as the mediator, and with several other stakeholders in the region,” the minister said.
“We are doing everything possible to help them [the US and Iran] reach an agreement. However, there are still some technical details to be resolved. I believe both sides have reached a general understanding regarding the final version of the initial draft agreement. I hope we will receive good news very soon,” Fidan was quoted as saying by the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet.
Fidan also commented on Israel’s position regarding the diplomatic process between Washington and Tehran.
“At present, Israel believes that any agreement between the United States and Iran in its current form does not serve its interests. Therefore, it is doing everything it can to disrupt or sabotage the negotiations,” he said.
